Woman of Sin
An enduring gift to your soul. Beautifully written.
Poetic, literary music.
I am a hospice nurse and sit with people who are dying . . . your book has changed my life. It is the best book I have ever read!
It is a great book and Diaz is a very good fiction writer. She has eloquently captured the life and politics of first-century Jerusalem, and the empire, and has spun a terrific story around one of the Bible’s most mysterious characters.
Personal and compelling, very solidly based on biblical events and history.
I really like biblical fiction and this author produces some of the best.
I loved this book and could not put it down…A very well-written story.
Excitement, romance, suspense, and pure story telling—everything a story should have is here.
This is absolutely one of the better reads! … These people are portrayed so realistically that you become involved and are able to draw parallels to our present time and lifestyle.
Author Debra Diaz elegantly and beautifully weaves an unforgettable story…Filled with suspense and romance, this novel will…lead you on a journey that is so real you will not want it to end. A true masterpiece!
One of the best portraits of Jesus I have ever known . . . I was truly touched for a lifetime.
This book blew me away with the breadth and magnitude of what the author took on. I hardly have words but will try. My father actually called to recommend it to me saying he could not put it down…Brilliant and my deepest thanks for such a book. I gave you a link and recommend on my blog, I loved it so much. I loved this book and could not put it down. This is my 3rd Debra Diaz book and I intend to read all of her others. A very well written story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the other two books in this trilogy. They are well-written and true to the Scriptures. This historical novel just got better as it went along. Well written, entertaining - I didn't want to put it down - and it explained the story of the Gospel beautifully.
You become part of the story. Part of the family. The author carries you with characters to Calvary and beyond.
Man of God
The author skillfully interweaves the Scriptures with imaginative fiction and yet manages to convey a strong sense of authenticity.
…It shows the commitment of this dedicated Christian man as he faithfully goes where God sends him, regardless of the dangers. Very compelling.
I pray that I would have this kind of faith if push came to shove...It is a wonderful love story.
I loved this even more than the first book and I really loved that one. Absolutely an amazing job by Debra Diaz. Can't wait to read the third.
It made me feel as though I was right there with each of the characters and could feel what they were feeling and what they were going through. I would recommend this book to anyone, Christian or unbeliever.
It is hard in an intensely emotional way to read, and it shakes the Christian reader, maybe even the non-Christian, to the soul.
This is a remarkable and beautiful story. I'll never forget this one.
Once again Ms. Diaz has portrayed 1st Century Christians with great drama and feeling. I don't know if I would have been as brave as the characters she invites us to follow.
I couldn't put it down and have read her other books as well, which are just as well done! Refreshingly realistic, entertaining and educational.
An uplifting read of faithfulness that both inspires and entertains. Thank you, Debra, for a historical fiction worth reading and sharing!
I read this and Woman of Sin twice and still cried, laughed, and felt joy over the strength of these characters. Debra Diaz is a truly gifted author. Thank you for writing Christian fiction.
God can change anyone's life if we just allow Him to do so. This book was a good example of that and to remember to always put our trust in Him.
Man of God and its prequel, Woman of Sin, are beautifully written, entertaining novels that interweave Scripture and truth masterfully. It is so heartening to read an author who values God's Word enough not to alter and pervert it to fit a story, but to create a story around His truth. I hope that Ms. Diaz writes many more such books, because they are not only a pleasure to read, but they also lift your heart and provide believers the opportunity to better understand the context of the Early Church and consider how we ourselves would have responded had we been there.
The author takes the reader to a new level of intimacy with the characters…the love of Christ shines brightly through this novel and will grip your soul! Truly an epic journey of the Christian faith. Beautifully and masterfully written…this novel is a mini-series in the making.
Child of the King
The story will remind you to continue to pray for the salvation of loved ones, that only God can change a heart, and he has demonstrated it time and again in the most unlikely candidates.
A great read. The author paints a clear, descriptive image that allows you to feel as though you are right in the midst of the story.
This is the kind of book that you sit up half of the night reading because you can’t put it down.
An inspiring book about love, redemption, and faith during the first century.
Debra B. Diaz weaves a beautiful story of love, suspense, and faith, with insight and understanding of the human heart and the struggle to do the Lord’s will when not exactly sure what it is.
This is an action-packed book. It challenges us to remember all that has been suffered for our faith. We as Christians need to learn.
A great story, well-written, and truly captivating…
One of the best books I have ever read! A perfect combination of suspense and romance in an inspiring Christian book…
While it has a Christian theme, even those not necessarily interested in Christian books would find this book an excellent period piece, well-written, and filled with accurate historical facts. Highly recommend!
Couldn’t put it down. A great book for believers and non-believers alike.
Debra B. Diaz has woven a beautiful tapestry depicting the political and spiritual atmosphere surrounding the Roman Empire shortly after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
I was held captive by this book.
This biblical fiction will delight readers with historical time-period writing, intrigue, romance, and suspense. Author Debra B. Diaz has a unique writing style that captures the reader and transports them to the place and era she writes about…
Thrilling right to the last page.
Comments on the WOS trilogy
Great books for seekers—couldn’t put them down.
I fell in love with the characters, and the books gave much food for thought about the early believers, their passion in sharing the good news, and their willingness to lay down their lives. The author did an excellent job at telling the story.
Shadow of Dawn
When I waked the morning after I read half the night...I thought I was in the Henderson's house! I felt I was actually in the room with those people. I could hear them speak. I could feel the wind, hear their footsteps, hear the doors open and close. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time...I was totally transported back in time to the Old South...
Several days ago I came across your book and decided to read during my lunch period every day. Let me tell you, I could hardly put the book down whenever my lunch was over...
I'm an avid reader, and it kept me guessing as to how it would end...
The book was wonderful! I felt like I was actually in the Civil War era...
I have read thousands of books in my lifetime and some I struggled through and some I could hardly put down. Yours falls under the last category...Hope to get to read some more of your books in the near future. At my age sooner than later!
...I couldn't stand to put it down for anything. When I had to, I would be thinking of it the whole time, trying to figure out what could possibly happen next...
We went on a...trip and while my wife was driving I decided to start reading your book. I read the first thirteen chapters before I had to make myself put it down so that I could take my turn at driving...Can't wait for the next book to come out.
When we arrived home from work my copy of Shadow of Dawn was in the mailbox. I started reading it last night and read about half of it. Just finished reading the other half tonight and I am absolutely blown away. My favorite reading is Historical Fiction and I can't begin to tell you how many books I've read over the last ten years but don't know when I have enjoyed a book as much as I did yours. I can hardly wait for your next book!
I have very low vision but with the use of magnifiers I read the book as quickly as I could...Since the loss of my vision I have not wanted to read but now you have piqued my interest with your book. I could not put it down.
I wanted you to know that I lost a night's sleep last night. I was so engrossed by the book that I absolutely could not put it down! I closed my book...as the birds began to sing and the light began to break on this Saturday morning...
Place of Peace
It draws you in right from the beginning. Lots of twists and turns. A great love story and clean romance.
Once again Debra Diaz shares a story of faith and hope with her readers. This was a great book, intriguing and inspiring.
This story will make you laugh, cry and love. It is well written and told. You will not want to stop reading once you have started. I enjoyed it thoroughly. The characters come alive and make you wish you could help them on their journey.
Absolutely enjoy reading any book by Debra Diaz! This was no exception. Great characters and storyline!
I appreciate reading a book that could actually have happened. That is this book. Fantastic plot with twists and turns that just beg you to continue turning the page!
I really enjoyed this story. It was easy to follow and I looked forward to curling up with my Kindle at night till I had finished the book. I had no idea of the serious yellow fever epidemic in Memphis after the Civil War. I enjoy history so that was a plus for me.
I admit, it has been a few weeks since I finished this book, but I will tell you that Debra Diaz is one of my favorite historical novel writers and this title seems to bring up good feelings, like it was one of the best books I have read in a while. Debra also somehow winds a love story within the development of the characters and it fits into the plot- I am sure you won't be disappointed!
This book is Historical Christian Fiction. I enjoyed it. The book description on Amazon really only sums up the first part of the book though. The other part of the book is actually more about the yellow fever outbreak in Memphis in 1878 - something which I had never heard much about, so it was interesting to learn more about that and it inspired me to read additional information on that subject.
This is a story of a disease-ridden city, Memphis, Tennessee, in the year 1878. Genny has run away to Nashville, Tennessee, my hometown, to escape pressure from her family to send her into an unwanted marriage. A marriage for love, & subsequent events lead her to Memphis. So much of a vivid picture is painted, with particular attention paid to the details of the disease & the effect it has not only on the people but the city itself. It is a romance with a lot of tragedy & heartache in tow. Not for the faint of heart.
On This Night
This is a very unique book. It has everything in it, romance, murder, suspense, and can learn a little bit of history. Will share with my coworkers!
CLUE meets Gone With the Wind! Ms. Diaz excels in period pieces and this fast- paced novel kept me guessing at every page. As always, her historical facts are well researched and lend an additional air of authenticity to the suspenseful tale. I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys mystery, murder, mayhem, southern history and of course a good love triangle.
I can't pinpoint what it is about this book that reminds me of other works by my all-time favorite authors. I'm not sure what, if anything, my favorite authors even have in common. All I can say is that, for whatever reason, once I discovered Daphne du Maurier, Victoria Holt, and Mary Higgins-Clark, I was hooked on their writing. Nothing else ever truly satisfied. Until now. For the countless times I wished for more "like theirs," this book has more than made up the lack. Throughout, I found myself mentally shouting, "YES, AT LAST!" The quality of Debra Diaz's writing is SUPERB; I am in awe. More, Ms. Diaz, please - MUCH more. Thank you.
This was a…great way to dip into our country's past life. You find that you want another book by Diaz when you are finished with this one.
Set in Natchez, Mississippi at the end of the Civil War, On This Night is the story of multiple branches of a family thrust together in one household, where, in a single night, an unfortunate incident sets off a chain of multiple murders and everyone is suspect.
On This Night reads easily, the tempo following a swift pace. Interesting slice of history of the Civil War. It was also interesting to study the role of women during these times…well done, Ms. Diaz!
This was a really good book. The story line was out of the ordinary, it has good character development, good descriptions and it stayed with me after I read it. The author kept you guessing clear to the end as to who the villain was.
A brilliant and heartwarming story with suspense and mystery weaved around the era of the Civil War. The book is fiction but filled with historical events which I loved. Well done!
I was pleasantly surprised by how absorbed I became with the book and the history of the Civil War it incorporated. I would definitely look to read another of her books if they were of this genre and quality.
Thought this was historical romance and was surprised with the mystery introduced. All of a sudden, all of the characters are suspects. Several twists, methodical analysis of each possible scenario, reminiscent of Agatha Christie with post-Civil War as a backdrop. Loved it!
Oh my goodness, I want to give this book a 10. It has everything…love, mystery, murder, and just when you think you have it all figured out, there is another twist. This is the first book that I have read that was in my thoughts even when I wasn't able to read. If you like to solve a mystery, try this book.
I read this book in two days. Enjoyed it because it was clean with no sex and no swearing.
Kept me turning the pages `cause I wanted to find out the person who was causing the havoc, and true to a good mystery you may think you know who it is but you'll be wrong until right at the last couple of pages when you find out the truth.
A great historical story. This story, apart from the murder mystery and love interest of the main characters, gives a historical insight to the aftermath and suffering on both sides of the Civil War in America. A very good read.
On This Night, by Debra Diaz, is a good, clean historic mystery that can be read by anyone of any age.
The historical material in the novel was accurate and well-written. I appreciate the author taking time to fact check and integrate the material into the novel without it feeling like I was reading a history book. Most of the dialogue seemed true to the time as well. Most of the characters were well-developed, and I could see them as they navigated their complicated and tense night.
Perfect from start to finish!
Best read in a long time and I read a lot!
I had trouble putting this one down! It takes place after the Civil War, when most people still held grudges against those on the other side, and there was little trust between the north and the south. I love to read about the Civil War era, but this book is very different from any I have read. It is full of danger and suspense, with romance thrown in as a sideline. Read this one, you'll love it!
Didn't want to lay the book down until I finished it. Kept my attention every page. I appreciated some mentioning of actual events of the Civil War.
Was drawn into this book with first page. Keeps you turning pages to see what will happen next. Enjoyed the history and looking forward to more by Debra Diaz.
Very well written, great characters! Did not expect the true villain from the start which was nice. Interesting to see how the main characters would overcome the past/prejudices.
Perfect for summer on the beach!
Best Civil War mystery I’ve ever read…I read myself to sleep so it usually takes me a week to read a book, but it took two nights to read this. I could not put it down. It leaves you guessing until the end. Worth the read!
I really, really enjoyed this story. I kept hoping there was a sequel or more pages.
I love historical fiction, especially the Civil War. This is the first mystery and suspense novel I have read. The whole book takes place within a day and night and is chock full of murder, mystery, suspense, and finding love in the South at the end of the war.
Summons From a Stranger
(Young Adult Mystery)
A mystery in a classic, Agatha Christie style setting.
A large manor house, a butler…and the vulgar rich. All bundled together in a claustrophobic house with a dying, bitter patriarch. The writing is good...if anything I would compare Diaz's style to some of the Sidney Sheldon novels I have read. Much of this narrative does a great job in making you feel as though you were some silent observer standing in the shadows...The plot is well crafted; it takes a while to boil up but once the "scream" starts off the adventure the pace is dramatic.
Lots of red herrings and false clues make it difficult to piece together the best suspect. Always a sign of a well thought out structure. Again I take my hat off to mystery writers - it's a challenging genre.
I enjoy reading, but many times I find I can predict the ending. Not so with this story. It was a mystery, but the point of view taken to tell the story was refreshing. I have been looking for more books by this author ever since.
I found this book entertaining and fun. An easy read. Reminded me of coming home after school and watching the early movie, which usually consisted of clean, funny 1940's murder mysteries.
I thoroughly enjoyed this murder mystery. I loved the setting, an old mansion in the woods with several overnight guests, all suspects and an inquisitive…girl trying to put all the pieces together. Excellent book for young readers and adults.
Unholy: A John Kendrick Case of the Supernatural
(Book ONe)
Unholy will get your attention! Debra’s skillful writing brings to light how easy it is for one to unknowingly open doors to things that may seem innocent, but are anything but. Isn’t that one of the oldest tricks of the enemy?
Tantalizing, fast-paced…Unholy challenges readers to look beyond what they see into the realm of the unseen. Diaz delivers with a fascinating and “unholy” haunting.
Prepare for an intense and emotional journey into the supernatural! Fleshed out and relatable characters, plot twists and surprises. Appropriate for adult readers of any persuasion. Relevant to today’s new world!
Unholy is a novel that stirred my emotions and yearnings while I faced the unknowns brought forward in this fascinating story. It pushes faith to its edge against the darkest of spiritual battles, in spectacular events that force its characters to their breaking points. Do you believe in God? The Devil? Fallen angels? Redemption? The majesty and mystery of Chateau Valkenburg is told in vivid, heart-racing scenes to keep you reading until the last page, setting its characters and haunting setting firmly in mind, ready for a sequel!
The duality of the story, literally light and dark, is not only suspenseful but chock full of spiritual information that is not made up and is delivered…by the characters via references spanning everything from the Bible to the Book of Shadows. I knew I was enjoying it because I kept finding time to read It’s not overly horrifying but suspenseful, intriguing, and informative…it is a thriller!
I read this book in one sitting, could not put it down. Lovely setting, interesting characters, the plot has a lot of twists and turns. Ms. Diaz’s explanation of the supernatural world and its workings are based on fact and beautifully written. Guaranteed to make you stop and think as you read…
